James Atherton

James began his musical life as a chorister in Manchester. These formative years instilled in him a passion for church music making, and led him to spend 16 years singing in cathedral choirs, most recently at Winchester Cathedral and St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, where he sang for the marriage blessing of HRH Prince Charles to Camilla Parker-Bowles. He joined Gloucester’s world-renowned cathedral choir in 2005.

He is himself an experienced consort singer and soloist, having worked extensively with groups such as Tenebrae, Ex Cathedra, Sarum Consort and the Exon Singers, and enjoys creating carefully chosen and appealling programmes which draw on these skills.
